
Melissa McWalter (BMus, UCT; MMus, UP) is a versatile, holistic and integrative therapist who draws from a unique variety of techniques and methods, such as music therapy, creative processing and yoga in order to promote health and help facilitate the discovery of meaning in life’s transitions.
Melissa offers creative arts therapy and process work as well as body-based yoga therapy for individuals with anxiety, depression, addiction and other mental health concerns. She also offers individual and group therapy for personal development and exploration of psychedelic experiences.
Melissa’s therapeutic style is clinically informed and flexible, drawing from have previously been considered ‘alternative’ therapies, such as body-based therapeutic work, non-verbal approaches and arts therapy. These forms of therapy are now being recognised as essential for healing and are considered evidence-based. Melissa completed a Bachelor of Music (University of Cape Town) followed by a Masters in Music Therapy (cum laude, University of Pretoria). She is a registered arts therapist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA reg no AT 0001350) as well as the South African Music Therapists’ Association (SAMTA) and the South African National Association for Arts Therapists (SANATA). She is working toward various accreditations including the only 850hr internationally recognised yoga therapy training in Amsterdam. Melissa is the chairperson of the South African Music Therapists’ Association.
